Nomads, an independent, Portland-based outdoor and travel apparel store, is currently hiring a full-time sales operations manager. Hours will be roughly 10:45-6:15 Tuesday - Saturday with some flexibility and with occasional additional hours. This is a salaried role paying $50,000-$55,000 based on experience plus benefits:

  • PTO - Two weeks paid leave (sick/vacation) plus New Year's Day, MLK Day,Presidents' Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas

Store/Operations Manager - Job Description

  • Maintain overall mood/ambiance of the store. Demonstrate to customers that, despite other tasks that may need to be accomplished, friendly, professional, high quality customer service is our priority.

  • POS System Management: Attend to daily opening, sales, inputting of new purchase orders, and closing procedures on the POS. Create Bank Deposits and maintain a balanced register. Become proficient on Lightspeed POS.

  • Maintain visual presentation of the sales floor by taking on or assigning the following tasks: Vacuuming, dusting, glass cleaning, hanger management, folding and refolding merchandise, straightening and maintaining neatness in merchandising of clothing, accessories, bags, travel gear area, cash wrap and front of the store areas.

  • Monitor and potentially buy adequate back stock of Office and Retail Supplies, including but not limited to: Handled Bags for customers, Gift Boxes for Holidays, Supplies for Printers, Ink pads and stamps, etc.; execute or oversee stamping of bags and gift boxes.

  • Buying: purchase and maintain appropriate inventory levels in the following categories: Travel Gear and Accessories (i.e. Sea to Summit, Eagle Creek), Wallets, Bags, Packs, Tote Bags, Shoulder Bags ( i.e. Flowfold, Sherpani, Thule, Black Diamond.)

  • Staff Management: Assist in training of new staff and provide ongoing team management

  • Marketing: Build a stronger online community

 

Social media responsibilities:

  • Enhance our brand and build a more robust following on our various social media platforms, including email list and website engagements (Facebook, Instagram, etc.)

  • Develop and administer content in a positive, authentic way that will reflect our brand and attract potential customers.

  • Become proficient in WIX for creating and modifying website content and executing email campaigns

 

General Operations Support: Assist and collaborate in developing strategies for:

  • 1. Increasing sales revenue

  • 2. Providing exceptional customer service

  • 3. Having a positive impact on our community

  • 4. Making Nomads a great place to work

 

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of retail store experience, including opening and closing

  • Experience training and/or managing other employees

  • Ability to work Tuesday - Saturday

  • Passion for outdoor activities and a basic understanding of the types of clothing needed for these activities.

  • A strong aesthetic sense - e.g., the ability to create outfits on mannequins, suggest coordinating pieces or alternatives to customers, organize by colors, general merchandising, etc.

  • Detail oriented.

  • Prefer a candidate with outdoor, adventure, or travel experience, a willingness to learn about technical and functional aspects of clothing, and a care for the environment and community.

  • References will be requested.
